Songs Of The Week: Phoenix, Maverick Sabre, Smith Westerns, Kanye West, Tame Impala, Justin Timberlake

by Carmen Cruz

Kanye West ~ Black Skinhead vs. Tame Impala's 'Elephant - Mashup mastermind Nate Belasco mixed these two songs together and created musical magic. **NOTE: You can download this tune for free!!!**

Justin Timberlake ~ Tunnel Vision - Off his amazing album 'The 20/20 Experience'. **WARNING: This video was previously banned from youtube (there's female nudity aplenty). The bigwigs at youtube have since changed their minds and now see the video as an artistic representation of the female body, rather than being something trashy. The video comments really run the gamut. Either way, a solid tune. MAKE SURE YOU DON'T WATCH THIS AT WORK!!!**

Enjoy.

Songs Of The Week - Priors, Rhye, Toro Y Moi, Kanye West, Chairlift

by Carmen Cruz

Musical Goodness.

Priors ~ What you need (Hey Champ Remix)

Toro Y Moi ~ This guy is a super talented singer, musician and producer who is most well known for helping to propel the 'chillwave'(think relaxing electronic music) trend. Here's a super stripped down version of one of the songs off his new album called 'Anything In Return'.

Toro Y Moi - Studies (en Mouv'Session) by LeMouv

Chairlift ~ I Belong In Your Arms - Total 80's influence here... and it's awesome.

Rhye ~ The Fall

 Kanye West ~ Runaway

Enjoy.

Mmmmmmm... Musical deliciousness.

Sleigh Bells ~ Infinity Guitars

Goldfrapp ~ Ooh La La

Grizzly Bear ~ Speak In Rounds  - Off of their latest album called Shields

Kanye West ~ White Dress -  Loooooooove Kanye. Always & forever. Put aside his obnoxious behaviour and you have to admit, the man is BEYOND talented.
**side note: This song is off the soundtrack for the new Quentin Tarantino movie 'The Man With The Iron Fists'.**

And saving the best for last

James Morrison ~ You Give Me Something - Loving this song to bits and it's regularly on repeat.    **observation: Dude kinda looks like a younger version of Chris Martin from Coldplay, minus that sexy space in between the teeth...**

Enjoy.

Songs of The Week!!!

by Carmen Cruz

Here's a few songs I have on repeat right now.

Queens Of The Stone Age ~ Go With The Flow - Oh how this song reminds me of the game 'Rock Band'!!!!

A former colleague in Calgary was telling me how a friend of hers had boinked Josh Homme when he came through Cow Town a couple of months ago. The dude is married and has a couple of kids. Douche!!! My crush on the 'Ginger Elvis' has died. Last I heard, he was still texting the hussy on a regular basis. SOOOO LAME!

Jaydiohead ~ A cool mix of Jay-Z and Radiohead. Believe it.

And speaking of Jay-Z...

Kayne West & Jay-z ft. Frank Ocean ~ No Church In The Wild - This song has such a wicked beat.

Mark Ronson ~ Amy - Mark Ronson is the bees knees. He worked with Amy Winehouse on her music and they became super close friends. Is this a song for her??? No idea. Wicked tune though.

Fiona Apple ~ Paper Bag - Whatever happened to Fiona Apple? Seriously??? Well she's released a few albums since her glory days in the late 90's and rumour had it that she was supposed to release a new album she worked on with Michelle Branch this past spring Still... Nada. What gives?

Lil Wayne ~ How To Love - Soooooo gooOOOooood!

Erykah Badu ~ Bag Lady - A song about ladies carrying around all that useless emotional baggage.
Pack light.

My sister is a photographer (here's her site, if you're interested!) and this song inspired this pic for one of her projects.  Thank GAD for photoshop!

Enjoy!

Yet Another Reason Why Tom Morello Is AWESOME ~ Video

by Carmen Cruz

Tom Morello, the WICKED guitarist from Rage Against The Machine, played a set earlier today at the Occupy Wall Street demonstration in Manhattan, New York City.
I love how politically involved and passionate this guy is. Check out the videos below, one where he gets the crowd to help him with his message, the second where Tom Morello leads the crowd in a version of 'This Land Is Your Land.'

Dear Tom Morello, you are awesome. That is all.

On a side note Kanye West and Russell Simmons also stopped by the protest earlier this week and mingled with the crowd. CooooOOOOooool.

Ta da! Songs Of The Week.

by Carmen Cruz

Here are my favourite songs of the moment. I'm obsessed... in a good way ;D

Small Sins ~ Why Don't You Believe Me?
A wicked group from Toronto. Formed in 2006 and Have this slightly retro sound. Wicked guitar. A great song to listen to while on a long drive.

Two Door Cinema Club ~ Something Good Can Work
These guys are from Northern Ireland. They're like this amazing blend of Keane, Muse and Phoenix. I think they almost sound like Phoenix's younger and peppy cousin. Wanna know why they originally formed their group? To get chicks. Straight up. At least they keep it real! They performed here in Vancouver at The Venue April 11th. I was lucky enough to chat with them and have a wicked video to post soon.

And speaking of Phoenix....

Phoenix ~ If I Ever Feel Better
Another perfect song to listen to on a long drive. Trust me on this one.

Santagold, Julian Casablancas & Pharrell ~ My Drive Thru
Originally written for a Converse commercial. Wanna get pumped up, or just dance? Listen.

Kid Cudi ft. Lady Gaga, Kanye West & Common ~ Poke Her Face

George Michael ~ Freedom
One of the sexiest music videos ever! From a time when the word 'supermodel' was used a bit more sparingly. These women were the real deal.

Ray LaMontagne ~ Old Before Your Time
When oh when will you come to Vancouver?!?!?!
Couldn't find a good, clear vid that does this song justice. One of the Best songs of the year, so far. My little brother & I can't stop listening to it. Listen to the words...

OutKast ~ Idlewild Blue (Don't Chu Worry 'Bout Me)
These guys are on my list of top 10 bands/groups/artists of all time. Freaking love them. When I checked out their website, there's still no word on the boys ever working together again. Why Outkast??? Why???

OutKast ~ Ms. Jackson
This song was written for Erykah Badhu's mom. André 3000 and Erykah were once a couple, and have a son together named Seven. The song talks about the problems that break-ups, separation, and divorce can have on a couple, and the animosity that a woman's mother can have for her daughter's former boyfriend or husband. Wicked Video.

Sorry... Just ONE MORE OutKast song I think you'll like....

OutKast (Off of 'The Love below" by André 3000) ~ My Favourite Things
Remember that song from 'The Sound of Music"? You know the one I'm talking about, '...raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens'. Yeah, well this is what it sounds like after André 3000 gets his hands on it. Love. (p.s: This is clearly not the actual music video, but at least you get to hear the song, nice and clear).

If you have any suggestions of some songs you think I might like/love, please send me an email.

Enjoy!

Favourite Albums Of 2010

by Carmen Cruz

It's tough to narrow down my list for the best albums of 2010, but I think I've got it down.

Here goes (don't judge!) in no particular order:

God Willin' & The Creek Don't Rise ~ Ray LaMontagne & The Pariah Dogs (Mind Blowing)

The Black Keys ~ Brothers (Ditto)

Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty ~ Big Boi (I miss OutKast. Seriously)

Body Talk ~ Robyn

Thank Me Later ~ Drake

The Suburbs ~ Arcade Fire

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy ~ Kanye West (I don't care that he's an egomaniac. The guy is brilliant.)

The ArchAndroid (Suites II and III) ~ Janelle Monae (Holy crap she's AWESOME!!! She's like a female version of OutKast.)

Sigh No More ~ Mumford & Sons (These guys can make a BANJO sound sexy! I mean..C'MON!!!)

Plastic Beach ~ Gorillaz

The Lady Killer ~ Cee Lo Green (Fuck you!!! And fuck her too!!!)

I could literally go on and on (LCD Soundsystem, Broken Bells, Eminem, Local Natives, Vampire Weekend, Crystal Castles....etc, etc.)

HONOURABLE MENTION: Universal Mind Control ~ Common (**Ok. So I know it came out in 2008, but I didn't really 'discover it' until 2010. Better late than never!**)

You should definitely check out any or all of these albums, if you haven't already. Please feel free to suggest any albums that I should be getting into.

Alright. Bedtime. Peace out.

Besos,

CC.

P.S: I'm kinda proud of myself that I finally updated my blog. Pathetic, but true...
