New Music : Basement Jaxx, Nine Inch Nails, Panic! At The Disco, Lady Gaga

by Carmen Cruz

If all this music proves anything, it's that the 90's are back... big time!

Basement Jaxx ~ Mermaid Of Salinas - This track is off their upcoming five-track EP 'What A Difference Your Love Makes', which will be released on September 30. This song = Fun!

Nine Inch Nails ~ Copy Of A - Doesn't this remind you of THIS song that NIN wrote for the 1997 movie 'Lost Highway'??? So freaking awesome! This tune is off their new upcoming album called 'Hesitation Marks', which is set for release on September 3. So who's all going to the NIN concert???

Lady Gaga ~ Applause - Rumour has it this was leaked a week in advance of its original release date.
It's hard to know if this is true or an attempt at drumming up some publicity. Either way, a cool tune. Her new album called 'ARTPOP' is due out on November 11.

Panic! At The Disco ~ This Is Gospel - Their new album called 'Too Weird To Live, Too Rare To Die!', comes out on October 8.  Is it just me, or does the lead singer kinda sound like the singer from Fall Out Boy in this tune? Proof here...

Enjoy.

LADY GAGA & TONY BENNETT ~ WORKING ON A JAZZ ALBUM!

by Carmen Cruz

BELIEVE IT!

After collaborating on a track for Tony Bennett's 'Duet's II' album, Lady Gaga decided she wanted  more.

While on tour, Lady Gaga had her dad call Tony Bennett to ask if he was interested in working on a jazz album with the eccentric singer. Tony was all...'Heck Yeah!'
So the wheels are in motion, and for now, the tracklist is top secret.

If you've never heard Gaga sing jazz, you're in for a surprise. She's like a sassy, growly version of Ella Fitzgerald. She's so freaking cheeky, it's AWESOME! Here's a sample of what you can expect from the new collabo.
Love, love, love this on so many levels.

Can't wait!!!!

Enjoy.

Lady Gaga's personal message.

by Carmen Cruz

Here's an anti-bullying video message that Lady Gaga sent to a 17-year-old fan who has been lobbying against bullying at the Etobicoke School of the Arts here in good ol' Canada. I must say, it's both impressive and heartwarming to see a massive celebrity like Lady Gaga using her star power to bring awareness to an important issue like this.

Please spread the love.

The Muppets Go Grunge

by Carmen Cruz

A new Muppets movie you say? Yup. Believe it!

The new Muppets movie will not only feature a bunch of cameos by some big names (Jack Black, Ricky Gervais, Lady Gaga)  ~ those crazy puppets are also doing some weird covers. Expect to hear the Muppets singing their own version of Nirvana's 'Smells Like Teen Spirit', and Cee Lo Green's 'Forget You' (although I feel that covering the original version, 'Fuck You' would be so much more interesting...can you imagine?!?!).

You can also expect to see Dave Grohl behind the Muppets drum kit. In the movie, he'll be temporarily filling in for the usual drummer Animal, while he's away at an anger management course.

So who's responsible for creating another muppet movie? Believe it or not, it's all thanks to Jason Segel. He's the dude from the TV show 'How I Met Your Mother.' He both wrote the script and stars in the movie. I've got high hopes for this one I tell ya. High hopes...

The movie comes out early next year.

Everybody's talkin' 'bout mmmmm pop music!

by Carmen Cruz

When I say that I'm a music lover, I mean it. I love all types of music, and yes that includes the  sometimes over-processed and overplayed pop tunes.

Besides having an unhealthy love for ABBA, pop is another guilty pleasure of mine.

Here are a few pop picks for the week:

Pitt Bull ft. Neyo - Give Me Everything  ~ Seriously? I looooove Neyo. Love him. Fun song. Don't judge.

Lady Gaga - Born This Way ~ The more I learn about Lady Gaga and her story, the more I like her. Can you believe that this video is over 7 minutes long? It's super weird, but now you can see why the gay boys love her. For the love of Gad, she starts the music video with a shot of a unicorn!!! Either way, great song.

Far East Movement ft Ryan Tedder - Rocketeer ~ Cause it's an awesome song and you know it.

Katy Perry - Firework  ~ Don't judge me! I can feel you judging...

And now, and oldie but a goodie. Is this pop? Yeah. Kinda. I have no idea why, but the Zoobilee Zoo! theme song and THIS particular tune have been in my head this week. Don't ask me why. Take a listen and just try to NOT sing along! Oh George Harrison... You... Are... Awesome!

Ta da! Songs Of The Week.

by Carmen Cruz

Here are my favourite songs of the moment. I'm obsessed... in a good way ;D

Small Sins ~ Why Don't You Believe Me?
A wicked group from Toronto. Formed in 2006 and Have this slightly retro sound. Wicked guitar. A great song to listen to while on a long drive.

Two Door Cinema Club ~ Something Good Can Work
These guys are from Northern Ireland. They're like this amazing blend of Keane, Muse and Phoenix. I think they almost sound like Phoenix's younger and peppy cousin. Wanna know why they originally formed their group? To get chicks. Straight up. At least they keep it real! They performed here in Vancouver at The Venue April 11th. I was lucky enough to chat with them and have a wicked video to post soon.

And speaking of Phoenix....

Phoenix ~ If I Ever Feel Better
Another perfect song to listen to on a long drive. Trust me on this one.

Santagold, Julian Casablancas & Pharrell ~ My Drive Thru
Originally written for a Converse commercial. Wanna get pumped up, or just dance? Listen.

Kid Cudi ft. Lady Gaga, Kanye West & Common ~ Poke Her Face

George Michael ~ Freedom
One of the sexiest music videos ever! From a time when the word 'supermodel' was used a bit more sparingly. These women were the real deal.

Ray LaMontagne ~ Old Before Your Time
When oh when will you come to Vancouver?!?!?!
Couldn't find a good, clear vid that does this song justice. One of the Best songs of the year, so far. My little brother & I can't stop listening to it. Listen to the words...

OutKast ~ Idlewild Blue (Don't Chu Worry 'Bout Me)
These guys are on my list of top 10 bands/groups/artists of all time. Freaking love them. When I checked out their website, there's still no word on the boys ever working together again. Why Outkast??? Why???

OutKast ~ Ms. Jackson
This song was written for Erykah Badhu's mom. André 3000 and Erykah were once a couple, and have a son together named Seven. The song talks about the problems that break-ups, separation, and divorce can have on a couple, and the animosity that a woman's mother can have for her daughter's former boyfriend or husband. Wicked Video.

Sorry... Just ONE MORE OutKast song I think you'll like....

OutKast (Off of 'The Love below" by André 3000) ~ My Favourite Things
Remember that song from 'The Sound of Music"? You know the one I'm talking about, '...raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens'. Yeah, well this is what it sounds like after André 3000 gets his hands on it. Love. (p.s: This is clearly not the actual music video, but at least you get to hear the song, nice and clear).

If you have any suggestions of some songs you think I might like/love, please send me an email.

Enjoy!
