Movies To Watch & Avoid

by Carmen Cruz

Django Unchained ~ YES!!! This movie will make you dislike Jamie Foxx just a little bit less. He's actually pretty great in this flick. You'll love to hate the characters played by Leonardo DiCaprio and Samuel L. Jackson. Christoph Waltz absolutely, hands down, steals the show. He's brilliant. You can also expect all the usual Quentin Tarantino style blood, guts and gore. **Note: This movie is NOT like Inglourious Basterds. If you're going into this flick expecting the same thing, you'll be disappointed.**

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey ~ YUP! A bit slow to start, but it eventually kicks in. While hardcore LOTR fans are freaking out that this movie isn't exactly like the book it's been adapted from, I still say the movie is wicked. The 3D was pretty solid (there were tons of scenes where the 3D was actually merited. It's about time!) and after watching this movie, you'll want to go back and watch the first 3 LOTR flicks.

This Is 40 ~ NO. Absolutely not. Talk about disappointing! It's not very funny, it's way too long and sometimes, it just felt awkward. I watched this with a group of about 8 people with ages ranging from 24 - 42. No one really liked it and everyone couldn't wait for it to end. The only thing interesting about the movie was the fact that director Judd Apatow's daughters are in the film acting alongside their mom, Leslie Mann. The girls are actually a couple of great little actresses. Aaaaaaand, that's about it. Save your money for a better movie.

Enjoy.
