Songs Of The Week: Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Poliça, The Holidays, Movement, U2

by Carmen Cruz

Here Ya Go....

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros ~ Better Days

The Holidays ~ Voices Drifting - Guy has some serious lung capacity.

Poliça ~ Warrior Lord - Off their new album called Shulamith, out October 22nd.  So awesome.

Movement ~ Us - My word this song is sexy...

U2 ~ One - Feel free to dedicate this to any gunslingers (or poop-slingers) you may have kicking around. I find it funny that I know 2 couples who used this as their 'First Dance' song at their wedding, when this song is actually about breaking up. Weird huh?

Enjoy.

WTF Friday Video Of The Day: Bono, Matt Damon, Olivia Wilde & Richard Branson Refuse To Pee.

by Carmen Cruz

It's true.
In February, Matt Damon pledged that until everyone on the planet has access to clean water and sanitation, he will NOT go to the bathroom. Damon's semi-serious Toilet Strike is meant to raise awareness of a very real public health crisis. 780 million people across the world – one ninth of the global population – still lack access to safe water and adequate sanitation.
Pretty shocking, no? He's enlisted a few celebrity friends to help promote his cause.
Check out their cheeky video:

New Species Of Spider Named After U2's Bono

by Carmen Cruz

A new species of spider has been discovered in Joshua Tree National Park (Joshua Tree.... hmmm....  sound familiar?).
Jason Bond, the biologist who discovered the little critter decided to name it A. Bonoi, as a tribute to Bono.
CooooOOOOooool.
Apparently, Jason has a thing for the beautiful, the famous, and the powerful. In the past he's also named his other new arachnid discoveries after Angelina Jolie, Barack Obama, Stephen Colbert and Neil Young.

Back to U2, the band is working on a brand new album (YAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY!!!), but according to Bono, they plan on taking their sweet time (noooooooooooo).

And so, we wait.................................................................

Enjoy.

It's all about U2 ~ Songs of the week!!!

by Carmen Cruz

U2 is one of my favourite bands of all time. Yeah, their music has evolved (as it should! Who wants to listen to the same stuff over and over again???) and some people are keen on criticizing the band and everything they stand for. I'll always love these guys but hey! To each his/her own.

Here are a few of their lesser known tunes that (for me) have stood the test of time:

Miss Sarajevo featuring Luciano Pavarotti

Party Girl (Live from Red Rocks) ~ This is one of the very first songs I'd ever heard from these guys. I remember going to the library with my sister and borrowing the 'Under a Blood Red Sky' album (actually, it was the record). I instantly loved them.

Stay ( Far Away, So Close) ~ From the moment I saw this video (as a young and impressionable teen) I decided that one of my bucket list goals was to be in a U2 video. It's a dream a still hang on to, to this very day. Hey, a gal can dream can't she???

U2 - Stay (Far Away, So Close) by djoik

Lady With The Spinning Head

Slow Dancing ~ A B-side tune.

Staring at the Sun (Live)

In A Little While

There are SOOOOO many more, but I'll stop here... for now ;D

Enjoy!

U2's Bono busking in Ireland

by Carmen Cruz

Footage of Bono busking in Dublin over Christmas has been popping up all over the net. The superstar was joined by  singers Damien Rice and Glen Hansard. *Mental Note: Must go to Dublin*
The trio were helping others get into the holiday spirit by singing Christmas carols. How awesome is that? BUT... the funny thing is that police showed up and tried to get Bono and the boys to 'move along'. The cops didn't recognize him! Buuuuurn.
Ah well.. here's a couple videos of the amazing street busking moment.
Oh how I adore Bono!!!!

Enjoy!

Apple Tribute - Why did this make me feel weird???

by Carmen Cruz

I've been visiting the familia here in Edmonton for the past week, and yesterday I got the news that Steve Jobs passed away. The whole world seems to be kinda shocked, and I get it. The dude was a BIG DEAL.
I went to an apple store today to switch my mom's broken iPod (See below. A limited edition U2 iPod. Old school but AWESOME!) for the replacement Apple was giving her.

 Bye bye U2 iPod :(

Once we switched out the iPod, we headed out of the store and this is what we saw. I don't know why, but it made me feel a tad bit uncomfortable. Thoughts??? Are there more of these tributes at other Apple stores???

I like the little apple with the penny though :)

Either way, it's the end of an area and a reminder that cancer doesn't give a rats ass if you're rich or poor. Damn you cancer!!!!

A Flashback To The 80's/90's. AAAHHHHH!!!!

by Carmen Cruz

Hola!!!!

So I was lucky enough to spend some time with my sister/nephews on Salt Spring Island. Whenever I sit down with Val, after the boys have gone to bed, we always start chatting about the past. 'Hey Val, remember when you convinced me to pay you $1 for an earthworm?'.. OR 'Hey Carmen, remember when we entered that break dance competition?'... and the list goes on and on.

So Val and I put together a list of cool things that we remember from our childhood, and I'd like to share it with you. Hopefully, you're amused, appalled and above all, have a good laugh! Please feel free to send me any and all suggestions for my list.
