Songs Of The Week: Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Poliça, The Holidays, Movement, U2

by Carmen Cruz

Here Ya Go....

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros ~ Better Days

The Holidays ~ Voices Drifting - Guy has some serious lung capacity.

Poliça ~ Warrior Lord - Off their new album called Shulamith, out October 22nd.  So awesome.

Movement ~ Us - My word this song is sexy...

U2 ~ One - Feel free to dedicate this to any gunslingers (or poop-slingers) you may have kicking around. I find it funny that I know 2 couples who used this as their 'First Dance' song at their wedding, when this song is actually about breaking up. Weird huh?

Enjoy.

#StarbucksDrakeHands = #Fail

by Carmen Cruz

Found this on Buzzfeed and couldn't help but share.

"A guy went up to a girl at Starbucks in LA and started hitting on her. She reluctantly gave him her number. Later that day she received this video."

While the girl who actually received this video didn't post it online, the friend she passed it along to did.
Is sending a 'selfie video' to a stranger the worst idea ever? Yes.
Is posting the video of a complete stranger a douche manouver? Absolutely.
And yet, it's like a car accident. We just can't look away....

Either way, this video has spawned a whole schwack of spoofs where people are tagging their videos with #StarbucksDrakeHands. Click here to watch the magic/horror unfold...

Poor Bastard...

 Enjoy.

Songs Of The Week: Local Natives, Mazzy Star, The Neighbourhood, ML (Micky Lightfoot), Jagwar Ma

by Carmen Cruz

Possibly giving you an eargasm....

Local Natives ~ Ceilings  - My obsession with this this band never ends. When you listen to this song, close your eyes and ignore the cheesy video. The tune itself is so awesome...

Jagwar Ma ~ Come Save Me - These Aussies sure know how to make music that reminds us of the summer. Dang it.

The Neighbourhood ~ Sweater Weather - Ok ok... so I've posted this song already, but hey! It's actually sweater weather now! And there's nothing hotter than slipping into your man's sweater... ladies am I right or what? ;)

ML (Micky Lightfoot )~ L.O.S.T - If K-os, Tricky and Busta Rhymes had a baby (just humour me here), the outcome would be ML. It's weird and rhythmic and fantastic. Just enjoy the ride.

Mazzy Star ~ Fade Into You - A classic. Breaks my heart every time I hear it. If it doesn't tear at your heartstrings, you're officially made of stone. Sorry...

Enjoy.

Songs Of The Week: CHVRCHES, Banks, Drake, High Highs, Beyoncé

by Carmen Cruz

Musical Awesomeness.

CHVRCHES ~ The Mother We Share - There must be something in the water in Glasgow. What's with all the amazing bands coming out of there? Yup, CHVRCHES is one of the many. If you like what you hear, lucky you! Their song 'Recover' is the iTunes free download of the week.

High Highs ~ Open Season - The perfect 'Go For A Fall Stroll Along The Seawall' type song.

Banks ~ Warm Water - Sexy time music courtesy of  my buddy DK's ipod. Thanks for introducing me to this! Top notch. Insert this into your playlist immediately.

Drake feat. Majid Jordan ~ Hold On, We're Going Home - Is this Miami Vice inspired music video a tad over the top? Maybe. But is the song awesome? Heck Yeah! Just an FYI, the song doesn't kick in till 2:43. It's worth it though.
Drake ~ Hold On We're Going Home from OctobersVeryOwn on Vimeo.

*Side Note: The Arctic Monkeys did  a cover of this Drake tune for BBC Radio 1. Click Here to check it out. Not bad hey?

Beyoncé ~ Halo

The Pemberton Music Festival is coming back for July 18th - 20th, 2014. YAAAAAAYYY!!!
The lineup hasn't been announced yet, but if it's anything like the 2008 lineup, it will most likely be MIND BLOWING. No pressure for the organizers, right?

The 2008 edition saw Vampire Weekend, Coldplay, Jay Z, N.E.R.D, Matisyahu, Airborne Toxic Event, The Flaming Lips and Deadmau5 (just to name a teeny tiny few) making sweet, sweet music in one of the most scenic areas, surrounded by nature and mountains. Oh the memories...

Riding For The Love Of Music: Music Therapy Ride

by Carmen Cruz

It's just you and the open road...and hundreds of  fellow motorcycle aficionados, plus your own presidential VPD escort all the way from Vancouver to Whistler! And don't forget special guest Dan Mangan joining in on the ride!

The Music Therapy Ride is an annual motorcycle charity ride designed to raise funds for community-based music therapy services in BC.
Now celebrating its 12th Anniversary, MTR has raised over $560,000. The money has helped fund unique and amazing music therapy programs, such as a mobile recording studio for BC Children’s Hospital.

Music can be uplifting, inspiring and healing, and The Music Therapy Ride & Music Heals proves just what a difference it can make in a person's life.

THIS Saturday, September 14th, kick off the day with a 9AM breakfast at the River Rock starting point, ride with a VPD escort & Dan Mangan, and end with a BBQ lunch, live auction and live music  in Whistler Village.

So if you're like me, and you:
A) Don't own a sweet, sweet motorcycle
AND
B) Are 100% confident that taping a playing card to the spokes of your pedal bike to make the 'motorcycle sound' just ain't gonna cut it, you can still do your part to help the cause.

Are you ready? GO HERE.

Enjoy.
