Coming To An Upper Lip Near You...

It's that time of year again.
It's a time when men look more and more douchey by the day, and we ladies have to be both accepting and supportive. Ugh.

Yup. You know what I'm talking about... Movember.

It's all about growing that moustache and raising funds (and awareness!) for prostate cancer.

I had a chance to chat with Peter from the Vancouver Movember chapter, and here's what he had to say:

CC: Anything new and different with the Movember peeps this year?

PETER: This year like last we're happy to be supporting prostate cancer Canada, as well as a variety of men's mental health initiatives across Canada.

CC: What are some moustache etiquette tips?

PETER: Aside from starting clean shaven on Movember 1st, men are able to grow any moustaches they like. The only real rules we have is you can't connect your Mo to the sideburns (that's a beard) and you can't connect it on your chin (that's a goatee). Other than that, wash it, talk to it and love it like a child. 

CC: What can us ladies (AKA: The 'Mo Sistas') do to help out? 

 PETER: Mo Sistas can register at movember.com, raise funds and be there with the men in their lives to support them through their moustache growth. On top of that they can encourage their fathers, brothers and any other men to get a regular check up at the doctor and live a healthy life.

 CC: Any cool events happening with the Vancouver Movember chapter? 

PETER: There are a TON of events happening in Vancouver. These include the Pre Season Tight & Bright Ski Party, the Moustache Miler in Stanley Park, and the Vancouver Gala Parté at the Commodore Ballroom.  I highly recommend coming to our Gala on Movember 28th. That's an event you don't want to miss!!!

CC: How are you helping to keep your Movember Bro's (and Sistas) connected and informed?

Movember Memories...

So It Has Finally Happened...

Some people say you can't officially call yourself a Vancouverite until you've had your bike stolen.
Well guess who's officially a Vancouverite now?!?!
Yesterday, I had my bike stolen from inside my apartment building. Now, I'm left feeling that yucky mixture of anger, sadness and frustration.

That bike was a gift from the lovely people at Giant Bicycles. I still remember the day Andrew (from Giant) rolled that bike into the radio station for me. I was so happy, I almost cried. Over the years, that bike became one of my most prized possessions. I ended up adding a rear carrier to it so that my aging pup could join me while I pedaled around the city. Seeing Maslow with his tongue hanging out while I rode by always made people smile. Both Maz and I genuinely loved that bike.

So here's the deal.
I have to accept that it's gone. It sucks, but that's just the way it is. 
Here's what I hope for:

I hope the person who ends up with my bike is someone who sincerely needed a bike.
I hope that if the person who ends up with my bike is struggling financially, they end up getting the bike for next to nothing. 
I hope that bike goes to someone who may have been having a bad day/week/month/year and that it brings them a tiny bit of joy.

I hope the person who stole my bike is someone who may have really needed the money for something good or important.
I hope the thief ends up selling/giving the bike to someone who might be 'down on their luck'.
I know it may sound ridiculous or naive, but I hope the person who stole my bike decides that my bike will be the last bike they ever steal.
If none of the above happens, I hope that the person/people who stole my bike end up with some sort of flesh eating disease and genital warts. 

Goodbye bike. You were awesome and you'll be truly missed.

Dunbar Haunted House (One Last Time)

It's become an annual tradition and the perfect way to get into the Halloween Spirit.  

Since 2004, the Dunbar Haunted House has been scaring people young and old, all while raising money for local charities.
What's that you say? You've never heard of the Dunbar Haunted House? Well feel free to check out this video:

So as it turns out, the hard working folks who put together the Dunbar Haunted House are hanging up their rubber masks, ghoulish wigs and blood stained...everything. This is the last year you'll have the chance to experience the overall fear and awesomeness that the Dunbar has to offer. ((sad))

This year's theme is "The Terror Of History".
General admission is $10, while brave kiddies under the age of 12 get in for $5 (CASH ONLY!!!!). Don't forget that 100% of the proceeds go to charity!
Oh! And the folks at the Dunbar Haunted House even have live music playing for the people waiting outside the venue. Cool, huh?!?!
